Planning a wedding is a wonderful and joyful undertaking. Those who are not members but desire the Sacrament of marriage at St. Alban’s are asked to worship at St. Alban’s first and then set up a meeting with the Rector to discuss your plans several months prior to the wedding.
Marriage is a sacramental rite in the Episcopal Church, and a wedding is a sacred liturgy. At St. Alban’s all weddings are done according to the Book of Common Prayer. All marriages are performed by our Rector, occasionally assisted by another member of the clergy at the Rector’s discretion. No weddings are permitted at St. Alban’s during the holy season of Lent.
It is not necessary to be an Episcopalian to be married at St. Alban’s, but at least one of person must be a baptized Christian. If one or both of the persons is divorced, the clergy must obtain the permission of the Bishop in order to perform the marriage.
Several hours of premarital counseling are required of all couples married at St. Alban’s and this should be arranged with the Rector well ahead of time. Music for the service is chosen by the couple in consultation with the Rector and organist, who will normally play for weddings.
Fees for Weddings
A Communicant of St. Alban’s is defined as one who has received Communion here at least three times in the past year and has contributed to the general support of the parish. If at least one member of the couple, or the parents of one member, fit this definition, the "Communicant rate" applies. While Communicants are not charged for weddings, donations are suggested to help offset the associated costs to the clergy and church.
